Favourite music videos and why?
1. Firework-Katy Perry (Jennifer Skeel)
This is one of my favourite music videos because it has such a deep meaning about many different situations that an individual can be found in and has intertextuality references that are talked about in the media including aspects of illness, violence, and sexuality etc. But this video shows how it doesn't have to be negative and how you can fight against society and its negative presentation shown in the media. It has a positive effect on its audience highlighting how being different doesn't make you any less important than anyone else.
2. Shut Up and Dance- WALK THE MOON (Jennifer Skeel)
This is also one of my favourite music videos because it uses a unique editing style being the use of inset images and it works with the fast beat of the song and the wide range of colours that are used in the video. It portrays a storyline of a couple and shows their relationship through the use of the insets with them dancing and having fun. It stands out to me from other music videos because not many pop music videos will use this type of editing and instead include jump cuts. I think the insets make the video livelier and interesting to the audience.
3. Camila Cabello- Havana (Ellie Taylor)
This is one of my favourite music videos as I like that the video is mainly narrative-based with areas of performance in it. Even though the music video came out recently I enjoyed watching it as it related to teenagers and what people are stereotypically meant to be when they are in their teens. I liked the camera and angles and movements towards the end of the music video because the camera follows the movement of the singer and the other characters; I also like how it jump cuts to different locations in the video.
4. Ed Sheeran - Perfect (Gabrielle Chambers)
This is my favourite music video because I think this has the most beautiful narrative. It clearly shows the love between the two main characters which draws me in and makes me more interested. Although the characters are older than me I feel as if this music video is targeted at younger people as well as it is a very fun and engaging music video. Also, there are some beautiful shots in this music video, especially where there is a P.O.V shot of Ed looking through the mirror onto the girl. I believe this shows love and romance- My favourite genre.
